Introduction

Gravatar is a free service which can serve a picture of you as your graphical avatar. It allows client applications to display your uploaded image connected with your email address.

You don't have to disclose any additional private information, it's really just connecting an image with your email address. See example screenshot below.

Tools supporting Gravatar

The following tools will automatically display your image, if you have set up a Gravatar account for the same email address. This allows quick identification on e.g. who is working on an issue, who created a Pull-request etc.

Examples

Jira issue in agile board:

Pull-request in BitBucket:

Tools not supporting Gravatar

The following tools do not support Gravatar, but partially there are some workarounds available.

  • Confluence (manual upload of an image to your profile is possible)
  • Harbor (no avatar image for users)
  • Rancher 2 (automatically created profile image that cannot be changed)
